Wow! What an album! The entire team, gathered around the two stars of the group—because what truly stands out is that we have before us the work of a whole team—has concocted a kind of masterpiece, in the truest sense of the word, delicately crafted, thought, and meticulously worked, imbued with a highly danceable collective energy, which doesn't preclude some truly powerful moments. In this very diverse album, more intimate than "I Am the Moon," the ambitious 2022 box set, the group, bolstered by the inventiveness of its numerous songwriters, once again takes us on a profound journey through the refined fusion of different styles and influences, always with that intelligence and incomparable musical mastery, a virtuosity so understated that we almost forget it's there. Remarkable! Ready for the trip?

The album opens with "Crazy Cryin," a track that rolls forward like a steamroller in a funky soul atmosphere, with active support from the horns (trombone and trumpet), the Hammond B3, and backing vocals. As if to set the tone, Derek Trucks delivers a sharp guitar solo: no question of anything soothing here! This is confirmed with "I Got You," penned solely by Mike Mattison, the first single released on January 23, 2026, the day the album was announced. Alert, fluid, and effective, the track quickly moves along at a very danceable pace, supported by acoustic guitars, including Mike Mattison's, while also benefiting from the support of the horns and saxophone, and backing vocals on the bridge. There's not a dull moment, and it all ends with a magnificent guitar solo from Derek Trucks. After this dynamic opening, things calm down, the tempo slows for "Who Am I," the second single released on February 20, 2026, a melodic ballad featuring a chiming guitar and restrained drums, designed to highlight Susan Tedeschi's vocals. A magnificent, suspended moment... We come back down to earth more abruptly with "Hero," built around a guitar loop that intensifies, as does the vocals on the chorus, contrasting with ethereal backing vocals. The band delivers a catchy track with a surprising, somewhat experimental coda, which builds in intensity and then fades away to make way for Derek Trucks' acoustic guitar intro to "What in the World," a pensive track by Olsen. The soothing arrangement, the refined Hammond organ playing, and the warm backing vocals give the song a particular charm, which also features a typical Derek Trucks slide guitar solo. A well-paced rollercoaster ride, the energy builds with a driving riff and saturated, pounding chords. Brandon Boone's bass strickes hard, but a soulful spirit remains in the catchy choruses of this "Future Soul," an intense live track that drives like a demon, including a distorted, edgy, and incisive guitar solo, before abruptly ending. This bodes well for future concerts!

"Under the Knife," the only track sung solo by Mike Mattison with the support of Susan Tedeschi, who practically creates a second vocal part, is carried by a gentle voice. It sways softly in the trade winds, unfurling its insidious charm with the support of a full horn section, before Derek Trucks' guitar momentarily takes it into something more "spacey," a charm interrupted by the frenzy of "Be Kind," a cheerful, danceable rocker. Kicked off by a strong guitar intro and a very percussive piano, this Gabe Dixon track should bring its full energy to the stage, especially with the powerful support of the horn section in the chorus. A well-placed break allows for a fresh start, and we notice a curious solo with, once again, almost Caribbean-influenced sounds.

The surprising "Devil Be Gone," another Gabe Dixon track, begins as a haunting, almost hypnotic boogie, but the chorus suddenly offers a soulful break with powerful backing vocals before returning to the haunting rhythm. A long and brilliant, unexpected dialogue between the guitars of Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi is also worth noting. We then move on more calmly to "Shout Out," a track that progresses majestically on a recurring electric guitar riff. Built around Susan Tedeschi's voice, which takes the opportunity to soar, and supported by Mike Mattison's acoustic guitar and the horn section, this opus delivers a soulful spirit, with brass that at times sounds like French horns. Another excellent track for the stage! A country-tinged guitar intro introduces "Ride On," the delicately treated final track, with discreet yet effective percussion. A superb melodic ballad that Derek Trucks' equally delicate guitar takes to another, slightly oriental, realm. What a beautiful conclusion!

I admit it: how could one not leave completely captivated after 42 minutes of pure auditory bliss and eleven exceptional tracks that will take you on their prodigious journey ? The Tedeschi Trucks Band has once again pulled off a masterstroke, skillfully reinventing itself without betraying its core identity, driven by the competence of an entire team in which the creativity and influence of Mike Mattison and Gabe Dixon are evident, and which should certainly not be reduced to the iconic and undeniable leading duo. Hats off!
